Bikey Business for Katie

Katie Klein is having a good day.  Jeremy's in school and Shana Tova is at preschool at Temple Beth Israel.   Janna is taking care of things on the homefront, and Katie's free to be herself.  She's out for a run as well.......actually, she did some track work this morning, according to what Omar gave her - it's plugged into her Nike watch with GPS and her IPhone.  Now, this is just "icing on the cake"  these extra miles at a 5K pace.  Katie doesn't go for the flowery stuff like Roberta does.  She's just hardcore in that she's got on black Nike Capri's, a lavender Nike singlet, black headband and out her six pairs of running shoes, she's wearing the black and grey Nike flywires with CEP Compression Socks in black.  She, however IS listening to music on her new gold IPod Shuffle and it's Tom Waits.

Katie is originally from Dublin, Ireland.  She moved to the states when she was a teenager with a girlfriend.  She landed in Portland, Oregon.  A very gifted Cello player, she got a degree in Music Theory from Reed College.  She played in the Portland Symphony for a few years and then she met Phillip, who was fresh out of Law School.  They dated less than a year, were married in The Rose Garden and then along came Jeremy and Shana Tova - both born at home with "Glow Midwifery" managing their water births.  Katie immersed herself in homemaking and mothering and decided to keep her musical training on hold.  She has a keen ear though, and has the rare ability to be able to play most stringed instruments on the spot.

Today, she is running through the streets of Laurelhurst, into Belmont and then back down towards Grand Avenue to "River City Bikes".   Tim Sherman is installing a new chain on a Cannondale "SuperSix EVO Carbon Ultegra.  She comes running towards him.  "Tim!"  "Katie!"

Tim is a beautiful, skilled young man, technically "geared" and great with his hands.  He is the Assistant Manager of the renowned Portland bike store.  Born and raised in Eugene, Tim came to Portland six years ago with two friends of his - bike geeks - and fell right into "River City".  Just moved into a new studio at 21st and Glisan in the Alphabet District.  He loves music and is most often listening to Elliott Smith, Nirvana and Johanna Newsom.  He's not really into much newer music, although he does enjoy a night out at a local brewery where live bands abound.  He will drive a distance to hear authentic Irish tunes though, and has been known to drink several large glasses of whatever IPAs are on tap.  Women are drawn to Tim like a magnet.  He's very gentle, compassionate and a great listener.   He actually can "two-step" and waltz like a gentleman.  A Very giving man as far as intimacy goes and he'll give his heart on a platter to the lucky woman who loves him.

Tim grabs Katie.  Squeezes her, tells her how vibrant and beautiful she looks today.  "Thanks Tim" she says....."I was just out for a run."  Tim challenges her.   "JUST out for a run, eh?  OK.  How many miles Katie?"   "Eleven" she says.  Time stands there eyeing her from the ground up, arms folded across his chest.

He grabs her, squeezes her, tells her how vibrant and beautiful she looks.  "thanks Tim, I was just out for a run.  "JUST out for a run, eh?  How many miles, Katie?"  "11?"  Tim stands, with arms folded across his chest.  "Please, let me get you some Powerade.  Wait right here"  He comes back with a cold Grape "Recover" and she drinks it down in four large swallows.

"So, what's new, Tim?  How's your new place?"  "oh, hey, can't complain.  No noisy neighbors, everyone rides bikes, we eat healthy, nobody uses gross laundry products, it's fine.  You oughta come see it sometime soon"  "Yeah, yeah, Tim."  Tim chimes back......"You keep saying that Katie.  I think you really do WANT to come on by.  Well, when you finally realize that you do, please do let me know.  The invitation remains open."

"Ok, Tim, you're on.  I've gotta run over to Kettleman's and pick up some bagels."  "How you gonna carry a bag of bagels when you run?"   "Aha!  I guess I'd better run home first and grab the car!"
Tim has a GORgeous smile.  Katie loves his silky blonde hair, and the way he looks out for her.
"Tim?"  "Yes, love?"  "how about Thursday night - I could come see the place?"

"You BET Thursday night"  She leaves, he's reeling...........and he goes back to fixing derailers and replacing handlebars.  Just at that moment, Tara, a clerk at the shop, hands him a soy latte.
